Repurposing surplus t-shirts

  2. Repurposing surplus t-shirts

We regularly take steps to reduce the amount of perfectly good kit going into landfill

We’ve made huge strides in reducing the amount of t-shirts we waste but there are still some surplus ones.  A few years ago, every runner got a 'free' t-shirt, whether they wanted one or not.

This resulted in us amassing hundreds over the course of a year and nationally, charities are unable to cope with the huge quantity of unwanted synthetic (plastic) t-shirts (often only given to runners to promote the event sponsors).

We invest in high-quality t-shirt designs so that people want to wear them, and reduced our entry fees by giving people the option of ordering one if they really wanted it.  This has drastically reduced our over consumption.

But what happens to the ones which aren't picked up?

Quite often, sending them to a charity bank results in them simply being shredded, releasing thousands of microplastics so it’s great that they can be repurposed, in this case via the Bumble Foundation in Uganda, to provide kit for young people via one one of our regular runners.

It's great that they can be put to good use.

If you've any ideas about how we can use the unused tees, please let us know!
