Frequently Asked Questions

Parking - Very Important

Why not consider parking in nearby Ambleside, getting the 516 bus to Langdale and entering into our draw for a FREE entry for using public transport? This will reduce the impact on the local roads and community. The 516 bus timetable is HERE.

Please use our Car Sharing Facebook group to either offer or request a lift.

We have two car parking sites at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. Follow satnav to LA22 9JX. Please be patient and follow the directions of our car park marshals when you arrive. Both car parks are on grass and it's likely to be wet, so keep that in mind when deciding with your friends who is driving and which car to bring.

Parking is £5. Alternatively, fill your car with 4 or more passengers and park for FREE.

Camper vans, whatever the size, must be parked in the main National Trust Stickle Ghyll pay and display car park 150m beyond our event parking. They take up much more room and weigh more than cars so cannot park on the fields which we use.

Registration

All Race Numbers must be collected from Registration in the main marquee on race day.

Registration opens at 10:00am on Saturday. You can collect your number up to 20 minutes before your allocated start time (unless you're on the bus).

Registration will be in the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. When you arrive in the event field (start/finish) follow the signs to registration.

Please fill in your medical informtion on the back of your race bib number.

Start Lists won’t be on display in the marquee but will be available above and we will confirm your number by email a couple of days before the event.

If you forget what your number is, you can check it on a tablet in registration.

If you’ve got any questions about your entry, please go to the enquiries desk on the right-hand side of the registration room and a friendly face will help you.

There will be a baggage storage in the main event field.

Please note there are no entries on the day and entries are not transferrable. Runners competing with someone else's number will be disqualified and will not be eligible for prizes or appear in the results.

We will also prevent them from taking part in future Lakeland Trails and Lakeland Roads events, such is the safety risk if something were to happen to a person whose details we don’t have on our system.

Start and Finish

Start

All runners set off at the same time from under our start finish gantry. Our start time is 12:10, our MC will let you know when it's time to get into the start process. We use gun times and you must be cross the start line before our sweepers.

Finish

When you cross the finish line, it’s really important that your whole number is clearly visible on the outside of your clothes so it can register with our timing system. Failure to display your number may result in disqualification.

Each finisher will receive a full size Christmas Pudding, however we do offer an 'opt out' on our entry system. So if you're unsure if you opted out, please log in the check. There will only be Christmas Puddings for those that didn't opt out.

Safety Cut off

The time limit for the race is 2 hours.  Any runner who has not arrives at the half-way point 50 minutes after the start will be timed out.

Facilities

Portable loos and a urinal unit are also on site.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel will be serving a range of hot food and drinks to purchase. Breakfast rolls will be available from 09:30 until 11:00. A lunch menu will be available from 12:00 and a mail meal menu will be available from 16:30. They are also selling hot mulled wine.

We'll have a range of stocking fillers to buy at the event, a great gift and way to remember your race.

Water stations

The water station is at 5.6km into the route.

As part of our commitment to reduce our environmental impact, please play your part by coming self-sufficient with your own water supplies or bring your own re-useable cup. We will not be supplying cups at the water station so please bring your own to be filled with Lake District water.

Our water station will have mulled wine (very popular) for over 18's and water (less popular).

Drinking water will also be available at the finish.

Safety

The running route is on very quiet Lakeland roads. However, they are open to other road users and whilst we have added in lots of helpful volunteer marshals and warning signs, please ensure you stay vigilant while running and give way to traffic at junctions if required. Please stay left at all times and run no more than two abreast.

Advanced Life Support Medics will be in attendance and our in-house Comms Team will provide radio coverage to the marshals and crew. The medics priority is medical emergencies and more severe injuries. With that in mind, they may not be able to help you with minor cuts and scrapes that you’d normally be able to sort out yourself.

If you are unable to finish your event and need to retire, you must report to the finish line or an event marshal and hand in your race number.

Please remember to treat fellow runners, members of the public, our volunteers and crew with respect. We want everyone to have an enjoyable day!

Volunteers

The event can't take place without our friendly marshals who are there to keep you safe.  Our experienced crew give you a full briefing and some goodies so you can be confident of your role.  If you want to volunteer to help us in any way we would love to hear from you. Check out our volunteers' page for more details.

Lost Property

After the excitement of the race, it can be easy to forget to pick something up. If you think you've lost / forgotten something, please contact us HERE and we'll see if we can locate the item. Items can be collected at a future event free of charge or posted back to you. For the latter, please pay HERE after we've confirmed we've got your item.

Prizes

We have prizes for the following classes. The fastest amongst you will recieve vouchers from Pete Bland Sports to spend in store. Prize giving will be at 13:30 from the main event field.

Open Class: First 3 Men & First 3 Women

Veteran Classes: First Man & First Woman (V40, V50, V60, V70, V80)

We also have a fancy dress competition during the run, the two best dressed will receive a pair of tickets that gives you access to the Brimstone Spa. A huge thanks to the Brimstone for providing these prizes.
