Ullswater - Race Day

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Wet Weather Car Park & Ride (as of 09.50am Thursday 12th October)

It's been a bit damp here in the Lakes, and we've had to action our wet weather car parking plan. More heavy rain is forecast on Friday, although the weekend is looking brighter, please keep checking this page website for any updates. Thanks for your understanding and see you in Glenridding.

Wet Weather Car Park & Ride
The weather gods are against us again and the event car parking field is too waterlogged for us to use. So there will be NO event car parking at Glenridding.

We have set up a special Park & Ride from Penrith Railway Station CA11 7JQ using a fleet of private coaches to get competitors to the venue at Glenridding for both Saturday and Sunday. Please first use the available public car parking in Penrith, or even use the train or public transport to get to Penrith Railway Station. This FREE service will be for competitors only, and the first shuttles will give priority to those taking part in the 10K and 5K morning events. Likewise, the later shuttles will give first priority to the Challenge competitors. Coaches will leave as soon as they are full. The journey to Glenridding will take 20-30 minutes, and we'll have a baggage storage facility available within the main marquee. There is a limited number of around 250 Pay & Display car parking in Glenridding for those bringing families and spectators.

Saturday (Helvellyn Trail) : fleets of coaches will leave Penrith Railway Station at 08.30am, 10.00am and 11.00am, to correspond with the four events.

Sunday (Ullswater Trail) : fleets of coaches will leave Penrith Railway Station at 07.30am, 08.30am, 09.30am and 10.30am to correspond with the four sailings.

Return coach transport will operate from Greenside Road (where you got dropped off) and again they will leave back to Penrith Railway Station when full.

Final details are available, and start lists are listed below - please get in touch if you think you should be on them and you're not! Please note : we have adjusted the sailing times to allow for a more realistic departure time and avoid unnecessary waiting at the pier - it usually takes more than an hour for the round trip to Howtown. You can view a map of the 10km and 14km courses here along with a profile of the 14km course. Your entry fee includes the half hour cruise to the start in Howtown aboard the Ullswater Steamer "Raven". The start in Howtown will take place as soon as everyone has disembarked from the Steamer.

Mandatory Kit List - Cagoule, tights or over trousers, hat and gloves. The Ullswater Trail is unique and follows one of the most beautiful lakeside trails in the UK. Access is difficult for a large section of the route, and safety teams can only reach it by boat. For this reason, we have a mandatory safety kit list which you must bring with you (wearing or carrying). This will be checked before you board the Steamer, and we will be running spot checks at the finish.

Don't forget your start number is collected on race day from the registration marquee at Jenkins Field. Event car parking is at King George V Playing Fields (clearly signposted) a short, level 10 minute walk to our start/finish venue. Please do not use the public car parking at Ullswater Steamers - this is required for their regular passengers.
