Welcome to the Lakeland Trails™ in Staveley

Saturday 26th May 2012

Now in it's 9th year, the Lakeland Trails in Staveley takes in the 17km Kentmere Trail Race, 17km Kentmere Trail Challenge and the 10km Kentmere Trail Run on spectacular courses through some of the most scenic countryside in the UK. The 10km Kentmere Trail Run takes place for the second time this year for those wanting a shorter adventure in the hills

News : The 2012 event is rapidly filling up and we expect the entry limit to be reached well before the official closing date. Please enter now to guarantee your place.

Starting from Staveley village Recreation Ground (postcode : LA8 9LN), the courses follow along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways taking in panoramic views of most of the southern Lakeland fells. The trails climbs out from Staveley above the Kentmere valley, before returning along the valley itself past idyllic tarns and through ancient woodland, climbing Reston Scar before the descent back into Staveley village.

Underfoot conditions are quite variable - there's a bit of everything. Short sections of tarmac, grassy footpaths, stoney bridleways with some stiles to climb over near the end, all add to the unique nature of the event. Check out the slide show of the course.

The 17km Kentmere Trail has TWO events - the Challenge, for less competitive runners, novice trail runners and those who want to take it easy and enjoy the views. The Challenge sets off at 13.00 and you get an hour extra to complete the course. The Race sets off at 14.00 and is for competitive runners, with winners prizes and a shorter time limit.

The finish arena will be quite a party, with live music, food stalls, retail stands, PA race commentary, bouncy castle & slide, face painting and lots more.

The course has more than 100 marshals and stewards involved, with kilometre markers and two water stations. There are some great prizes on offer for the trail race, and winners prizes in the veteran classes. All the finishers receive a quality, specially designed Lakeland Trails event memento and will have a chance of winning one of the spot prizes donated by local businesses.

There are children's Fun Trails too for under 12's - short laps around the finishing arena for all abilities. Every child finishing gets a medal.

The senior entry fee also includes a contribution to our nominated charity Kendal Mountain Rescue.

A great family day out !
