The Bridgedale Garburn Sport Trail is a new event for the International Lakeland Trails™ Festival in Staveley, for those who want to experience a shorter version of the tough PUMA Lakeland Trails™ It is also ideal for the novice or younger runner, and for those new to the sport of trail running. This is the very first Garburn Sport Trail in Staveley
Starting in Staveley village at 15.30pm, the 5km Bridgedale Garburn Sport Trail follows a circuit along well marked and marshalled bridleways, trails and minor road finishing on the Staveley Recreation Ground. It takes in panoramic views of the surrounding peaks of the Kentmere valley. Underfoot conditions are generally good, and there is a short steep climb, and one stone tile to negotiate on the way out and back. Check out the slide show of the course.
There are great prizes on offer for the first three senior men & women in the Bridgedale Garburn Sport Trail, and winners prizes for the first three boys and girls under 16. All the finishers receive a quality, engraved medal and will have a chance of winning a spot prize donated by local businesses.
The finish arena will be quite a party, with the 40 piece samba drumming band Kookaburra All Stars playing live music along with singer / songwriter Pete Lashley, a large Entertainments Marquee with a party programme, a beer tent, food stalls, retail stands, PA race commentary, bouncy castle & slide, face painting and lots more.
There are children's Fun Trails too for under 8's to under 12's - short 400m laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a specially engraved medal, and there are winner's prizes and junior spot prizes too.
The longer 24km PUMA Garburn Trail Race and Challenge sets off earlier in the day for more experienced trail runners. There are International world class runners competing, and it makes for quite a spectacle watching them finish.
