The PUMA Hawkshead Trail Race and Challenge is a 15km course through some of the most scenic and varied countryside in the Lake District - Beatrix Potter country ! The 2007 race achieved a 97% approval rating from the readers of Runnersworld magazine and was also rated the "Best Race in the UK in 2007" (100+ votes category). News : Results for the PUMA Hawkshead Trail Race, PUMA Challenge, Nordic Walking Challenge, Bridgedale Sport Trail and children's Fun Trails are now available.
Starting in Hawkshead village, the 15km PUMA Hawkshead Trail Race and Challenge follows a circuit along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways takes in panoramic views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding peaks of the Coniston Hills, the Langdales and most of the Lakeland fells. Underfoot conditions are generally good, and the course has fast running conditions for those used to off-road running. Check out the slide show of the course.
The start and finish arena will be quite a party, with live music from Batala Liverpool, a large Entertainment Marquee with a party programme, a beer tent, food stalls, retail stands, PA commentary, face painting, bouncy castle, bouncy slide and other entertainments.
The course has kilometre markers and two water stations - one around half-way at the Sawrey Hotel, the other at the start of the infamous "Coffin Trail". There are great prizes on offer for the first men & women in the Trail Race, and winners prizes in the under 21 and veteran classes. All the finishers receive a quality, specially designed event T shirt, and will have a chance of winning a spot prize donated by local businesses.
There are children's Fun Trails too for under 8's to under 12's - short 400m laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a specially engraved medal, and there are winner's prizes and junior spot prizes too.
The Bridgedale Sport Trail is back once again, over a 4km course. A race and fun run for the novice and younger runner or walker (12 years and older). The Sport Trail follows a marked and marshalled course along bridleways, trails and minor road starting in Hawkshead village and finishing on the Hawkshead Showground.
