Now in it's 7th year, the 17km Hawkshead Trail (Race and Challenge) follow well marked and marshalled courses through some of the most scenic and varied countryside in the Lake District - Beatrix Potter country ! New for 2012 ! a shorter distance 10km Hawkshead Trail Run for those new to off road running.

Starting from Hawkshead Showground (postcode LA22 0NN), the 17km Hawkshead Trail Race and 17km Hawkshead Trail Challenge follow a circuit along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways takes in panoramic views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding peaks of the Coniston Hills, the Langdales and most of the Lakeland fells. Underfoot conditions are generally good, for those used to off-road running. Check out the slide show of the course.
The 17km Hawkshead Trail is split into TWO events - the Challenge, for less competitive runners, novice trail runners and those who want to take it easy and enjoy the views. The Challenge sets off at 13.00 and you get an hour extra to complete the course. The Race sets off at 14.00 and is for competitive runners, with winners prizes and a shorter time limit.
The start and finish arena will be quite a party, with live music, food stalls, retail stands, PA commentary, face painting, bouncy castle, bouncy slide and other entertainments.
The course has kilometre markers and two water stations - one around half-way at the Sawrey Hotel, the other at the start of the infamous killer climb of the "Coffin Trail" - the "murder mile". There are great prizes on offer for the first men & women in the Trail Race, and winners prizes in the veteran classes. All the finishers receive a quality, specially designed event Lakeland Trails memento, and will have a chance of winning a spot prize donated by local businesses.
NEW for 2012! 10km Hawkshead Trail Run Limit 500 (start 11.00am) A shorter distance event for everyone, on a well marked and marshalled course, with graded runnable climbs and descents for those with off road running experience. The time limit is 2 hours for the 10km and to enter you must be at least 16 yrs old
There are children's Fun Trails too for under 12's - short laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a medal, and there children's spot prizes too. All children's entries are taken on the day only.
