"Painfully glorious" Peter Newstead

"Beautiful scenery, excellent organisation, good fun, very friendly at all levels." Curious

"This is what other race organisers should aspire to. The race was tough. The hardest opening mile I've ever known, followed by a brief respite before that amazing hill at 9K. The subsequent downhill was treacherous. What a fantastic course. Took on water at the start, 8K, 16K and the end, so I didn't even notice that one water station was missing. The finish area was brilliant with the stalls, food, Kendal mint cake, free soup, beer tent, live music, commentary, bouncy castles, face painting, climbing wall, ice-cream, drummers, free t-shirt, spot prizes etc. It was great for the kids to have so many people around for their fun run."  Tramps like me

"It is impressive that the organisers had certainly put increasing everyone's enjoyment over increasing their profit. Most scenic race in the UK ? Not sure, I was too busy gasping for breath or looking down to see where my next footstep would land. Although it takes 4½ hours to get there and even longer coming back, we will definitely be back for another one of the series next year.

Totally knackered by the end-but loved every minute !!!! Everything about this race was spot on! Superb organisation, superb scenery, superb atmosphere cannot wait for race no.3." Jarvo

"Superb race, superb scenery *boing*  wonderful, wonderful race. my first time and loved every moment of it, even the long uphill... brilliant company of other runners doing it and friendly marshalls on the way round. absolutely breathtaking scenery, views were well worth any of the agony of the uphills. definately a favourite and will be back next year for sure :o)" Phal

"Big steep hill at start, very big steep hill in middle, hill at end. Very nice race, can't wait for next year." Ian Forrest

"Tough Tough Tough but very very enjoyable, first climb so soon after the start was an eye opener not to mention the climb to the top of the pass (must be the highest hill i've (ran???) walked up without a pack on my back) and the little hill at the end was even worse after 19km. Gates and stiles at the end provide a welcome rest though and the last 2k run in was brill." Whacker

"A great race, well organised, stunning scenery Having dipped my toes into trail racing at Hawkshead, Garburn felt like i'd dived full in! A superb course with some breathtaking views, varied terrain and great atmosphere. If you missed the first water stop, seems that some imbecile stole it overnight. Can I borrow your brain please, I'm trying to build an idiot? Certainly did not detract from my enjoyment of what was a life-affirming day out in some of the most stunning countryside imaginable. These races are well run events with a carnival atmosphere, and represent superb value for money. Oh yes, you might even wear the T-shirt down the pub rather than just save it for decorating. Well done all involved, and don't let the water morons get you down." Simon Smith

"Still in my all time top 3 A hard but amazingly rewarding trail race. The running (and walking!) is hard up, but a fantastic fast ping back down." Flanker

"European trail running comes to the Lake District Great race - I love the variability of the hills
and terrain. The kids races at the end give this event a special atmosphere." Stevie W

"Organisation and marshalling was yet again superb and this includes the whole supporting day out, not just the race. Well done Graham, Claire and team. A fantastic course, superbly organised. This was my first trail race so I was not really sure what to expect in terms of time. I soon realised that my target of 2 hours was optimistic, but I was pleased with 2:16 given the 750 mountain halfway round. The organisation was excellent, everything like clockwork. Those nasty individuals responsible for stealing the water station should be made to push a bottle of water up Garburn pass with their nose!" Fent

"Another excellent race with great scenery and faultless organisation Great race again! Thanks to Graham and the others for another great day. I ran the Challenge (and it certainly was one!), and my kids once again enjoyed the Peter Rabbit Fun Trails. Medals great for the kids, also a nice T-shirt for the adult races - good to see XL available that is actually XL and fits! Looking forward to the next one in September...." MRV

"Still worthy of "The most scenic race in Britain" title. A great course with fantastic scenery, some lung busting climbs and wickedly fast downhills. You can't get bored with a course like this." Happyrunning

"The theft of the first water station did not detract from a great event, luckily the second water station was not far away." Phil Nightingale

"A grand day out. Tough but enjoyable. Being a slow runner, I really appreciate being able to do the challenge and have an earlier start. It's amazing to see the leaders in action on the course - something one normally wouldn't see. Tough course, carnival atmosphere, friendly organisers, marshalls & participants." Mudlark

"Great race in the best country side - but the hills" Nicholas Rank

"Just the most beautiful route wonderful route, varied terrain, loved the rocky descents although saw a couple of others tumble, last hill was a sting in the tail. Friendly marshals, good atmosphere. Hardest run I have ever done!  Organisation brill, marshalls and the locals friendly and supportive, so thanks to them. Shame about the first water station. The hills were killers, the descents fast and fun. I have never felt so completely shattered after a race. The beer (after plenty of water) was good, and the peter rabbit runs made it a very good family day out" Gwynn Wallace

"Best scenic off-road run" Paul Stanfield

"Challenging race, amazing views ,definately deserves the most scenic award!  A huge number of friendly marshal's on the course, a tough climb but stunning views to reward you at the top of Garburn. Music, food and t-shirts(Like the colour!) all included at the finish. The Junior fun Trails are an exciting finale to the day. Another well organised event in the Lakeland Trails™ series. Long may Garburn continue!" BeeBop

"To share a thought that has only occurred to me after several of these. These races are among very few that wait until the senior races are finished before handing over the arena to the children for their events. It surely cannot be very often that international class athletes happily stand by to watch primary school children race and receive their prizes first - this effort of making the children important within the context of the day rather than a sideshow is very much appreciated. It's also, for me, the spirit of the events in a nutshell." Cumbria Andy

"beats running on roads, can't wait for the next" JoGemm
