The brand new PUMA Kentmere Trail Race and Puma Kentmere Challenge is on a 17km course through some of the most scenic countryside in the UK. Replacing the much longer, tougher 24km Garburn Trail, this new course should prove a big hit and is more in keeping with the other three Lakeland Trails
Starting in Staveley village, the course along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways takes in panoramic views of most of the southern Lakeland fells. The trail climbs out from Staveley above the Kentmere valley, before returning along the valley itself past idyllic tarns and through ancient woodland, climbing Reston Scar before the descent back into Staveley village.
Underfoot conditions are quite variable - there's a bit of everything. Short sections of tarmac, grassy footpaths, stoney bridleways with some stiles to climb over near the end, all add to the unique nature of the event. Check out the slide show of the course.
The finish arena will be quite a party, with live music, food stalls, retail stands, PA race commentary, bouncy castle & slide, face painting and lots more.
The course has more than 100 marshals and stewards involved, with kilometre markers and two water stations. There are some great prizes on offer for the trail race, and winners prizes in the veteran classes. All the finishers receive a quality, specially designed Lakeland Trails technical T shirt worth £20.00 and will have a chance of winning one of the spot prizes donated by local businesses.
There are children's Fun Trails too for under 12's - short laps around the finishing arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a specially engraved medal, and there spot prizes too.
The senior entry fee includes finisher's Lakeland Trails technical T shirt worth £20.00, and a contribution to our nominated charity Kendal Mountain Rescue.
A great family day out !
