Welcome to the Lakeland Trails Festival in Keswick

Saturday 6th September 2008

The PUMA Derwentwater Trail Race and Challenge is a 14km course through some of the most scenic and varied countryside in the Lake District. Last year's event received a 98% approval rating from the readers of Runnersworld magazine and rated 10th best race in the UK.

"Fantastic event run in magnificent scenery. This is the kind of event that reminds me why I run. Wonderful, friendly atmosphere, challenging without being brutal, incredible scenery and superb organisation. Particular thanks to the marshals, braving the drizzle to cheer us on." Dave Claret

Starting and finishing in Fitz Park, Keswick, the PUMA Trail Race and Challenge 14K circuit along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways takes in panoramic views of Lake Derwentwater and the surrounding peaks of the Skiddaw and Blencathra range and the northern lakeland fells.

Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to trail running, but expect a bit of everything ! The course has no stiles, so there is nothing but the hills to break up your rhythm. Check out the slide show of the course.

The start and finish arena will be quite a party with an exciting atmosphere and live music from the Milnthorpe Steel Band.

The course has kilometre markers, there are some great prizes on offer for the PUMA Trail Race, and winners prizes in the Under 21 and veteran classes. All the finishers receive a quality, specially designed race T shirt and will have a chance of winning a spot prize donated by local businesses.

A new Bridgedale Sport Trail event over 4km is scheduled for everyone 12 years of age and older - ideal for the rookie, novice and younger trail runner.

There are children's Fun Trails too for under 8's (400m), under 10's (800m) and under 12's (1000m) - short laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a specially engraved medal, and there are winner's prizes and junior spot prizes too.

A great family day out!
