Welcome to the Lakeland Trails Festival in Coniston

Saturday 4th October 2008

The PUMA Coniston Trail Race and Challenge is a 15km course through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the Lake District, with the Bridgedale Coniston Sport Trail covering 5km of spectacular lakeside scenery.

Last year's event was rated the "Best Race in the UK in 2007" with an overall approvals rating of 100% (Runnersworld magazine)

Starting and finishing at Coniston Hall, just outside Coniston village, the 15km circuit along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways takes in panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.

Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running, although there is one short 200m section after approx 3.5km which only agile mountain goats will be able to run. Check out the slide-show of the course.

The course has kilometre markers and a water station at just over half-way, there are some great prizes on offer for the trail race, and winners prizes in the veteran classes. All the finishers receive a memento and will have a chance of winning a spot prize donated by local businesses.

There are children's Fun Trails too for under 8's to under 12's - short 400m laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a specially engraved medal, and there are winner's prizes and junior spot prizes too.

The Bridgedale Coniston Sport Trail is back again, over approx 5km for everyone 12 years old or more - ideal for the novice and younger trail runner.

The Lakeland Trails Prize Giving and Party Night takes place in the evening with live bands and a late bar (tbc).
