Now in it's 8th year, the 15km Coniston Trail Race and 15km Coniston Trail Challenge is an unbelievably scenic course through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the Lake District. NEW for 2012 ! A shorter distance 10km Coniston Trail Run taking place in the morning, for those wanting a shorter (and less hilly) option.
"The best of Cumbria -- great views, friendly people, lots of mud!! After years running the fells just for fun, this was my first trail race and I loved it. Great views, fun people, awe-inspiring race winners, and friendly organization. I'll be back!" Alice Ridout
Starting and finishing at John Ruskin School in Coniston village (postcode : LA21 8EW), the 15km circuit along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways takes in panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.
Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to off road running, although there is one short 200m section after approx 4km which only agile mountain goats will be able to run. Check out the slide-show of the course.
The course has kilometre markers and a water station at just over half-way, there are some great prizes on offer for the trail race, and winners prizes in the veteran classes. All the finishers receive a Lakeland Trails event memento and will have a chance of winning one of the spot prizes donated by local businesses.
There are children's Fun Trails too for under 12's - short laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a medal.
